‘Frightening’ forward Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly wanted to sign scores again


Liverpool and Chelsea were linked with Ousmane Dembele in the summer transfer window, but the forward signed a new contract with Barcelona and did not move to Anfield or Stamford Bridge in the end.

90min reported on July 4 that Chelsea wanted to sign Dembele on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 and were hopeful of persuading the France international forward of making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Sport reported in May 2022 that Liverpool had made contact in regard to signing the 25-year-old former Borussia Dortmund star, whose “pace is frightening in training”, according to comments from former Barcelona star Lionel Messi in GiveMeSport in March 2020.

Dembele eventually put pen to paper on a new contract with Barcelona, and he has been flourishing under head coach Xavi this season.

The 25-year-old forward has made four starts and one substitute appearance in La Liga for Barca so far this season.

Dembele has scored two goals and given two assists in those matches..

The former Borussia Dortmund star has also given two assists in one UEFA Champions League match for Barcelona this campaign.

Dembele was among the goalscorers for Barcelona in their 4-0 win against Cadiz away from home in La Liga this past weekend.

The forward came on as a substitute in the 57th minute and scored in injury time.
