Klopp claims 'machine' is getting 'better every day' in Liverpool training
Jurgen Klopp has praised Darwin Nunez and believes that the Liverpool striker is a ‘machine’ having been impressed with his progression in training.
There were always going to be huge expectations on the shoulders of whoever replaced Sadio Mane at Liverpool.
It just so happened that Liverpool chose Nunez to come in from Benfica, securing a big-money deal for the Uruguayan.
You would think that fans have learned enough times by now to know that players often take time to settle in the Premier League.
Yet Nunez has received major criticism in the early weeks of his Liverpool career and will be looking to make a bigger impact moving forward.
Nunez hit 26 goals in 28 league games for Benfica last season, so there are certainly goals in him.
Yet fans forget that Nunez was playing in Spain’s second tier just over two years ago.
The jump from Almeria to Benfica in 2020 was huge in itself and Nunez only scored six league gaols in his first season at Benfica.
After taking time to settle in Portugal, Nunez has now made a big jump again and just needs to be given that time at Liverpool.
Nunez was outstanding against Arsenal and followed up a goal against the Gunners by scoring against Rangers too.
Nunez came off the bench and caused chaos against Manchester City on Sunday, but he would probably admit that his end product can improve.
The 23-year-old may now need to take up a different role in the Liverpool side after the injury to Diogo Jota.
That means a start could come against West Ham United this week and boss Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the striker.
Klopp told media earlier today that he thinks Nunez is a ‘machine’ and has been impressed with the physicality he can provide.
Klopp feels that Nunez is getting ‘better every day’ in Liverpool training as he continues to settle.
The German added that Nunez has ‘completely arrived’ at Liverpool now but understands that he wants to add more goals and assists in the future.
“I like his impact really,” said Klopp. “He’s a machine, he’s physically incredibly strong, in training he gets better every day, you can really see how he settles more and more. He’s in the team now, mind-wise 100%, he’s really arrived completely, but of course he wants to score more goals and set up more goals as well,” he added.
