Liverpool set to miss out signing of creative Spanish midfielder

Gavi is reportedly now on the verge to signing a new contract with Barcelona following lengthy talks.

The 18-year-old creative midfielder was a key player at club level during the 2021-22 season, playing 46 games in all competitions, contributing two goals and six assists in the process.

There has been a host of rumours surrounding the midfielder’s future in recent months, and he has still not agreed on a new contract at Camp Nou.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Man Utd are all believed to be keeping a close tabs on the situation with a view to potentially adding him.

Over the summer, Barcelona president Joan Laporta claimed that he was “optimistic” that the 18-year-old midfielder would soon commit his future to the club.

We’re optimistic because we want Gavi to stay at Barcelona. We are very excited about him staying, he’s from our academy. The player and his agent, who we know, also want to stay at Barcelona. We are very close to reaching an agreement,” he told Marca at the time.
