'No': Jurgen Klopp says £100k-a-week Liverpool player definitely won't be in the team against Napoli tomorrow

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has delivered his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s Champions League tie against Napoli.

Klopp spoke to the press, via the club’s official website, off the back of their 2-1 defeat to Leeds at the weekend.

It was another disappointing performance from Klopp’s side as a late Crysencio Summerville goal ended Liverpool’s unbeaten home record.

The games are coming thick and fast, giving Klopp plenty of selection headaches.

Liverpool’s manager did confirm one player who wouldn’t be involved tomorrow.

Klopp confirmed that Joel Matip will not be fit to face Napoli, but there was some positive news.

Ibrahima Konate has a ‘good chance’ of playing, and a report from Liverpool Echo suggests he’ll start instead of Joe Gomez.

Calvin Ramsay might also be on the bench, and the young Scot has hit the ground running in Liverpool’s under-21s.

Klopp provided an update on his squad’s fitness, although admitted the quick turnaround between games made this difficult.

“I’m sorry that I don’t have more information but that’s how it is, one-and-a-half days after a game,” Klopp said.

“That’s my situation always, you just usually don’t face the press then.

“So, we have to wait a little bit but then in the moment when we know who is ready, then we will make sure that these boys are ready for a proper fight.”

When asked specifically if Matip would be available, Klopp simply said:  “No.”

The £100,000-a-week defender has suffered his fair share of injuries since arriving at Anfield.

Matip has already missed ten matches in all competitions this season, and his most recent issue has been a calf injury.

Liverpool’s defence has looked very creaky this season, and could be in part down to Matip’s absence.

Even the incredibly reliable Virgil Van Dijk has not been the same player this season.

Matip may not be fit to face Napoli, but Klopp will be hoping he’s fit again before going the World Cup break begins.
