Liverpool welcomed Rangers to Anfield for their Champions League clash at Anfield.

After being defeated by Napoli in their opening game of the campaign, they were looking to make it back-to-back wins after triumphing against Ajax.

And they did just that with a comfortable 2-0 victory in Merseyside.

Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring in the seventh minute as he fired a brilliant free-kick into the back of the net.

The Reds were given a penalty in the 53rd minute when Luis Diaz was taken down inside the box.

As Liverpool’s main penalty-taker, Salah stepped up to the mark and finished with aplomb.

Henderson was positioned on the edge of the box for the penalty. He could be seen mimicking Salah’s run-up.

Some may be confused as to why Henderson decided to copy Salah’s run-up.

It has been suggested on Liverpool’s Reddit page that it was an attempt to put off Rangers goalkeeper, Allan McGregor.

But it is much more likely that Henderson acted the way he did so he could time his run and be the first player in the box should the penalty be saved.

If McGregor did save the spot-kick, then Henderson would have been well placed to put the rebound into the back of the net.

It’s a simple, yet so clever tactic.

Henderson is not the first player to imitate Salah’s penalty run-up.

James Milner did the same when Liverpool faced Man City in the Community Shield in July.

Henderson spoke to the media after the game and he was happy with his side’s performance.

“It felt good,” he told BT Sport, per ThisIsAnfield.

“Intensity, everything felt really good, energy, winning the ball back high up and everything, possession, winning the tackles, making the last step into tackles and getting the ball.

“So overall, I think we’ve got to be really pleased and it’s a step in the right direction, for sure.”

Liverpool are next in action when they take on Arsenal in a heavyweight Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
