Report: £35m Liverpool player made a wonderful post-match gesture after beating Derby on penalties

They claim that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain went out of his way to get Liverpool shirts to the Derby County players last week.

Derby boss Paul Warne had told his players not to swap shirts until after they’d applauded the travelling support. The players listened, too, but found that Liverpool had mostly gone by the time they were done.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, hearing of the request, went around the Reds’ dressing room gathering shirts. He then delivered them to the Derby players, including shirts from Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez.

It seems that Liverpool and Derby got along remarkably well, given how tight the game was. This is the third time we’re reading of a gesture from the Reds.

They were spotted right after the final whistle applauding the visitors, as per Stephen Warnock for the BBC. Warne then discussed how Jurgen Klopp went out of his way to invite him for a drink post-match. The Derby boss was more than happy to take him up on that offer, too.

“He [Klopp] said loads, loads,” said Warne. “He said about coming in for a drink after, he must have read my thing I said about Pep [Guardiola] not inviting us in.

“So, he said come in, which was good.”

All very positive, then. Liverpool likely won’t face Derby for a long time, unless a cup draw throw them up together again. For whatever reason, though, the Reds did all they could to show extra respect to the League One side.

Not that we’d expect anything less but Liverpool certainly deserve applause of their own for the gestures.
