Sorry Ten Hag as Liverpool interested in signing 35-goal star to replace Mane

Liverpool have joined Man United in the race to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to the latest reports

Man United may have Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad – one of the greatest players off all time and a player that managed to net 24-goals in all competitions for the club last season – but he is coming towards the back-end of his playing days at the top level.

And of course that has led to all sorts of speculation in the media that Man United would be very open to adding a new striker to the squad that is a little younger – fresher -and can give Erik Ten Hag the work rate he wants

Nunez is a player that is hot right now as finished the season with 35-goals in all competitions for Benfica – he has caught the attentions of all the big clubs – who are all looking for that next big thing in the game

But Man United have already started making their moves for the talented young striker – as Correio de Manha say that the Red Devils have made a £64 million offer plus plus £17m bonuses in order to complete a move for the man.

However – According to The Times, Liverpool hold an interest in the 22-year-old – as they seek to sign a replacement for Sadio Mane – who could be all set to leave this transfer window

Mane is a player that Jurgen Klopp would like to keep – but he has yet to confirm that he is staying at the club – with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich already making moves to get some some kind of deal done

Boss Jurgen Klopp admires £68million-rated Nunez having seen his side come up against him in the Champions League last season – and Benfica are hoping to use interest in Nunez to spark a bidding war.

Nunez is believed to covet Champions League football next season which could hand Liverpool the edge over United.

The lad is a very talented and Man United will not appreciate the latest batch of rumours that Liverpool are now interested – it makes their battle to sign the player that lot harder
