Liverpool will regret allowing €90M midfielder to join Spurs

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Nicolo Barella as the perfect solution to their midfield needs but Spurs could swoop in and sign him instead.

Julian Ward has already added Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay to Jurgen Klopp’s squad so far this summer but with the window yet to close, Liverpool will be continuously linked with new names until it’s legally impossible for the Reds to make any more acquisitions.

With Liverpool’s squad extremely deep in most areas, the only area of the pitch that needs any sort of reinforcement is the engine room.

The Premier League and Champions League runners-up have enjoyed a fine summer transfer window, already securing the services of Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsey and Darwin Nunez.

Furthermore, it has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp may be prepared to make no extra incomings before the start of the 2022-23 season.

The German is allegedly giving believed to postponing his search for a new playmaker until 2023, a consequence of missing out on Aurelien Tchouameni.

However, according to Calciomercatoweb, the Merseyside Reds boss is a huge fan of Barella and may be prepared to push ahead with a bid over the coming weeks.

The report suggests that Klopp would like the Merseyside Reds to press attacker with a proposal for the Italy international at all costs having been left impressed with the 25-year-old’s progression.

Barella has spent the last three season at San Siro, playing a total of 135 games in all competitions and helping Inter Milan win the 2020-21 Serie A title.

Such is his status at the Serie A giants that a deal will prove tough, Inter believed to be ready to demand in the region of €90m (£77.5m).

As it stands, the Merseyside Reds would need to make a number of player sales in order to finance such a big-money contract, something which would be helped by the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

However, it is currently unclear Liverpool are prepared to part ways with the Englishman for a cut-price fee, seemingly creating a scenario where Naby Keita may be allowed to depart Anfield in part-exchange.
