Liverpool’s Ben Davies to join Rangers in £4million deal
The 26-year-old had attracted interest from a number of Championship clubs, including Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, but eventually decided on a move to Rangers.
His former club, Preston North End, will be entitled to a portion of the fee as they negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause when he was sold to Liverpool.
Davies was left behind when Liverpool embarked on a week-long tour of Asia so that he could sort out his future.
He joined Liverpool from Preston for an initial fee of £500,000 at the end of the January transfer window in 2021, when Jurgen Klopp was dealing with something of a defensive injury crisis.
But Davies did not make a single competitive appearance for the club, as Klopp opted to use rookies Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.
Davies was instead loaned out to Sheffield United for the 2021-22 season, making 23 appearances in the Championship.
Rangers have moved quickly to bolster their defence after The Athletic revealed on Saturday that Calvin Bassey had opted to move to Ajax, with a move expected to be completed in the coming days.
Leon Balogun left the club upon the expiration of his contract and Filip Helander has suffered a fresh injury, leaving Giovani van Bronckhorst in need of reinforcing his defence.
