Report: Manchester United now prepared to battle Liverpool for 'incredible' midfielder compared to N'Golo Kante
Manchester United now face competition from Liverpool in their attempts to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo.
90Min claim that Jurgen Klopp’s side are keeping tabs on the Brighton man as they deal with injuries in midfield.
It seems like they are more likely to wait until next summer to sign a new player at the heart of midfield, but they do have injuries and have struggled at the start of the season.
United need reinforcements even more urgently, and have now bounced back around to a player they rejected the chance to sign before he moved to Brighton.
United could have had Caicedo for £4.5 million but pulled away from the deal only for him to establish himself in the Premier League on the south coast.
Now, with the Frenkie de Jong pursuit going cold, and Adrien Rabiot seemingly not coming either, United are scrambling around for a midfielder.
Caicedo showed United what they were missing with a midfield masterclass at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.
And Brighton apparently have no intention to sell, having already raised big money for Marc Cucurella this summer, when he joined Chelsea.
As well as Liverpool, United could have to battle historic rivals Arsenal and Chelsea for Caicedo, with Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
South American football expert Tim Vickery told talkSPORT about Caicedo in February 2021: “A year ago he was saying that Kante of Chelsea is his role model but he is already more than that. He already offers more in the final third.”
The 20-year-old Ecuador international only made his top-flight debut a 2-1 win away at Arsenal in April – a performance Brighton defender Adam Webster labelled ‘incredible’.
But he now has United ready to test Brighton’s resolve, as well as going up against their next opponents and fiercest rivals if a deal is there to be done.
