Report: Jurgen Klopp was fuming at how bad 29-year-old Liverpool player's passing was last night
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was not happy with the quality of Alisson Becker‘s distribution against Manchester United last night.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that the Liverpool player’s poor passing ‘infuriated’ Klopp.
Alisson’s passing from his goal is described as ‘wayward,’ something which his manager was reportedly unhappy with.
The 29-year-old did manage to make a couple of really impressive saves for The Reds. Despite that, he’s still yet to keep a clean sheet this season.
Alisson not at his best, but still better than most
At one point during the second-half, you could see Klopp’s anger at his goalkeeper boil over. Alisson clipped a simple pass straight over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s head and into Klopp’s feet instead.
The boss held out his arms in frustration before screaming something towards the Brazilian. Not the best example of Alisson’s ball-playing abilities.
Usually such a tempo-setter, if the goalie isn’t on it, then that can feed through to the rest of the team.
It must be said though that Alisson was far from Liverpool’s biggest problem last night. The saves he made from Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford were excellent. Without him, the score-line could have been worse.
Question marks could be asked about his positioning for United’s first goal. The way in which he threw himself to his left despite being unsighted wasn’t great. His prematurity completely opened up the goal for Jadon Sancho.
Small details, but the ‘keeper surely won’t have been happy with that one. Still, it’s worth pointing out that Alisson didn’t have a pre-season at all.
He’s still working his way back from the summer break. In that respect, he could really do with a bit more help from the likes of Virgil Van Dijk.
After perhaps his best season in a Liverpool shirt last year, much of the same will be expected of Alisson this time. It hasn’t got off to the best of starts, but the only way is up.
