Report: Liverpool ready to submit bid for 'one of AC Milan’s most important players'
Liverpool are ready to submit a bid for AC Milan’s Ismael Bennacer, according to Italian outlet CMW.
The Reds have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window, bringing in three new players.
Darwin Nunez became Liverpool’s record signing, while Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay have also arrived at Anfield.
The Reds have been consistent with their message that they won’t sign a new midfielder this summer.
However, CMW reckons that Liverpool are in fact eyeing a potential swoop for Bennacer.
The outlet suggests Jurgen Klopp is looking at him to add ‘quality and geometry’ to his midfield ahead of the new season.
Bennacer apparently has a £42m release clause, but the Reds may test the water with a bid of around £34m.
Though Liverpool may not necessarily be in a rush to sign a new midfielder, it’s not a bad thing to keep an eye out for opportunities.
This is exactly what Klopp did in January with Luis Diaz, a player they reportedly wanted in the summer.
Faced with concrete interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool brought their pursuit forward and landed a top player.
Bennacer is, in the words of scouting website Breaking the Lines, ‘one of AC Milan’s most important players’.
His manager, Stefano Pioli, called him a “complete” midfielder in April via Milan News.
And Sempremilan deemed Bennacer ‘one of the best directors in the league’.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool do indeed make a move, but there’s no doubt the 24-year-old would be a good shout for the Reds.
