Report: Midfielder didn’t even want to speak to Liverpool amid mega-bid
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were willing to pay €100 million (£86.56 million) in the final two days of the summer transfer window to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid, according to AS.
AS have claimed that Liverpool were keen on signing a midfielder late in the window and were determined to secure the services of Madrid star Valverde, who can also operate as a right-winger.
The Premier League club were willing to offer as much as €100 million (£86.56 million) for the Uruguay international, but Madrid were not willing to do any business.
Valverde himself was not keen on a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, according to AS, who have added that he did not even want to speak to Liverpool about a potential move to Anfield.
In our view, Liverpool were always going to find it tough to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Madrid are arguably the biggest club in the world, and they do not sell players if they do not have to or if they do not want to.
Federico Valverde has established himself as a key figure at Madrid and won the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League with Carlo Ancelotti’s side last season.
The Uruguayan star was surely not going to leave Madrid after a hugely successful season and move to Liverpool.
