Report: Liverpool could now sign £338m player for £68m

Barcelona want €80 million (£67.66 million) as transfer fee for reported Liverpool target Frenkie de Jong, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sport reported in February 2022 that Liverpool are keen on signing De Jong from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Romano has now said on FIVE that Manchester United are keen on the 25-year-old midfielder, who will cost €80 million (£67.66 million).

While that is still quite of money, it is nowhere near De Jong’s release clause of €400 million (£338.31 million) (Sport).

Romano said on FIVE: “I am told that Barcelona want around €80 million (£67.66 million) for Frenkie de Jong.”

In our view, if Frenkie de Jong will cost £68 million, then Liverpool should at least try to sign him from Barcelona in he summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international has not had the best of times at Barcelona, but he is only 25, and his intricate skills and ability on the ball cannot be ignored.

The best years of the Dutchman are ahead of him, and although Liverpool are well stocked in midfield at the moment, having a player of De Jong’s calibre would help Klopp’s side in the coming years to stay at the very top.
