Liverpool transfer round-up: Matheus Nunes price tag set with clause as Reds delay deal

Liverpool's start to the new Premier League season has not gone quite as hoped for Jurgen Klopp and his men.

A tricky trip to newly-promoted Fulham on the opening day saw the Reds just about escape with a point thanks to an impressive cameo from record-signing Darwin Nunez. Klopp will now lead his side in their second fixture against Crystal Palace on Monday night, but does so with a host of injuries.

Sporting Lisbon are preparing for life without midfielder Matheus Nunes - but are insistent on protecting their interests for the future.

The 23-year-old is being tracked by a number of Premier League clubs, with Wolves showing the greatest interest ahead of Man City. Liverpool are also keen but a move is not considered a priority at present, according to Sky Germany.

However, that could soon change amid Liverpool's need for a midfielder, along with a report from Sky which claims Sporting are willing to do business for around €35m (£29.6m) providing a sell-on clause is included in the contract.

UOL reports that West Ham have already seen a bid of that amount snubbed by Nunes, who is holding out for a bigger project in England.

Liverpool have decided to hold fire on sanctioning another loan move for Sepp van den Berg after the injury sustained to Joel Matip.

Reds fans will remember all too well the defensive crisis which plagued the club two seasons ago, with injuries to Matip and Ibrahima Konate already leaving them light at the back.

A number of Championship clubs, including Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Sheffield United and Watford, had made enquiries regarding Van den Berg, who impressed in a temporary spell at Preston North End last season.

But Liverpool are now set to wait until closer towards the end of the transfer window before deciding whether to let him depart on loan for the season.
